About Me

Hi

My name is Petra. I love all things pens and stationery and am a bit tech averse -let’s just say I still use a paper calendar, but it keeps me organized and looks great with my coloured pens! I have also learned that for me, the act of writing (not typing) things down helps me to better remember things, and I utilize this in session- taking some notes as you talk. It's impossible to decide if I like the mountains or the ocean more and finding places with both is the absolute best as listening to ocean waves or smelling mountain air is when I feel most at peace. Despite being an extrovert, I started life as a pretty shy kid who worried a lot about what others thought of me. Now I care less, enjoy more, and seek fun.

I work with individuals who are exhausted from trying to meet the needs of others while ignoring their own. They are often over-achievers who struggle daily with racing thoughts, increased heart rate, and a sense of panic. My clients often come to me saying that it feels like they are barely holding on and that their mind won’t stop thinking, making it hard to sleep. They are experts at thinking things through (and every possible worst-case scenario) and rarely allow themselves to actually feel what is happening. As someone who has found my way through worrying about the perception of others, I love helping others with similar struggles.

I provide a supportive and non-judgemental approach and integrate humour when possible. My clients have told me that they like that I am fairly direct and provide practical strategies in session. I can sit in the tough stories with you and really listen- you don’t have to worry about being too much. I incorporate EMDR therapy, body-based interventions, psychoeducation, and breathing strategies to help increase affect (emotional) tolerance, decrease symptoms of anxiety, and help you start living the life you desire.

I am a registered psychologist in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) and Psychology Association of Alberta (PAA).
